There’s a lot of quantum metaphysical stuff being thrown around these days. It’s about the limitless power of our minds and hearts to create a world of joy, meaning, prosperity and maybe even peace. And frankly I’m reveling in it. But the reality of most of our lives is that we’ve got to find all this good stuff in the context of our work and businesses. I’ll get to why I bring that up in a moment.
This Christmas we gave copies of Randy Gage’s phenomenal book Why You’re Dumb, Sick and Broke…and how to get smart, healthy and rich. I’ve got to admit the title does make it an awkward gift! But it’s well worth the risk. Gage talks about freeing ourselves from the constant onslaught of “negative memes” – the cultural, religious and familial forces that infuse our subconscious with beliefs about lack and inadequacy. This guy is right on the money figuratively and literally. Boy, this is great stuff!
We also forced holiday guests to watch The Secret with us (if you don’t have a copy order one at www.thesecret.tv) and even bought copies for our kids and their families. Over and over again it talks about not only visualizing the future you long for but feeling that future as though it were a reality. (Your desired future is already a reality, you just haven’t opened that door to see it yet.) When you bring head and heart together like this you create an unassailable energy that the universe must accommodate. I recommend you watch this movie once a week; you’ll never feel and be so powerful. This is amazing stuff!
So there you have it: 1) Free yourself from your limiting beliefs and escape the insidious grasp of those who want to minimize you and your potential. 2) Replace those beliefs with visions and feelings of what you truly see as your richly imagined future.
We are not the recipients of universal energy, we are universal energy. There is no need to swim against the river when you are the river. Abundance, prosperity and happiness are all effortlessly at your command. Or are they?
This week the third shoe has dropped and it’s got to do with how you see the business of work.
Those trapped with a lack mentality tend to think everyone owes them something. Their parents, the government and for sure their employer. They whine and moan about every little thing drowning themselves in a cesspool of self-pity. They want it easy. The fact they don’t have a clue what ‘it’ is doesn’t seem to matter – it’s owed to them.
Those who operate from the perspective of abundance may be on a higher level of consciousness, but they too can slip into a kind of spiritual laziness. Can they expect to have their ideal world handed to them on a virtual platter simply because they believe in abundance, spend days in deep visioning and feeling and know the difference between string and spiral theories? Does the universe owe it to them?
The third shoe, actually more like a boot, belongs on the foot of one Larry Winget and he’s inclined to firmly put it you know where. He says we’ve got to wake up and see our work in a whole new way. Enough of the mambi-pambi sniveling politically correct business gurus and the “There’s no ‘I’ in team” bleeding hearts! You can read his blunt observations yourself in his just released book They call It Work For a Reason.
To those whining about how life is doing them wrong he says ‘shut up and get to work’! To those trying to metaphysically envision a new reality into existence he says ‘open your eyes take your finger out of your navel and get to work’! Winget has zero tolerance for anyone who sits around waiting for some quantum paradise to come to them and he doesn’t care if they’re happy in their job or not. His secret to success is: DO YOUR JOB!
Don’t get the point wrong here – Larry is one of the most ardent ‘abundance’ thinkers and visionaries I know. But he confronts the cowardly myopic way we run businesses and do our work in a style that slaps you alongside the head and makes you laugh at the same time. This is a reality check unlike any business book you’ve ever read before – certainly one of those must reads for every manager and leader.
Larry gets into a lot of sacred cow do-do about human resources, customer service and strategic plans and so on – but I want to draw on one particular point that struck me and helped bring a needed anchor to my quantum musings.
He helped round-out the whole picture on how to achieve unbounded purpose and prosperity: 1) Escape from your limiting beliefs. 2) Deeply envision and feel those experiences and things you want in your life. And 3) GET TO WORK to make them happen.
You know, I like to think I live my life on a modestly high level of consciousness. But in thinking some of this stuff through yet again I realize that if I spent as much time working to make my richly imagined future a reality as I do wishing for it to be so – I’d be a lot further ahead.
Until next time…be purposeful!
Ian
PS: I read Larry’s new book They Call It Work For A Reason in one sitting; it really is that ‘can’t put it down’ good. The book just came out and while you can get it anywhere I suggest going to http://www.larrywinget.com/itscalledwork.html where if you purchase a copy before January 8 you’ll get $50 worth of superb products from Larry as well.
